New Mindfulness Courses at Notts SVS Services
We will be running our first Mindfulness Course, starting on 6th June. The free course, which runs from 10am – 12 noon, for 5 weeks, involves elements of meditation and looks at the benefits of staying in the present moment and paying attention to both our thoughts and our feelings.
Why practice Mindfulness?
Recent research indicates that with regular practice, for as little as 20 minutes a day, the brain actually changes. The part of the brain that sends messages of anxiety and distress slows down, while the part that sends messages of calm and comfort to the body actually speeds up. This can help make a real difference to our lives and help us to cope with the stress and challenges that we face.
What will it involve?
The sessions will help you to learn about mindfulness and will give you an opportunity to practice some of the techniques in a safe and supportive environment. By the end of the course you will:
- have learnt some of the different ways of being mindful
- have experienced some of the benefits of being mindful
- be able to practice mindfulness in on your own at home
Who is the course for?
This course is designed for people who have already used Notts SVS Services to work through their traumatic experiences. It is intended that the course will help you to continue to support yourself in your journey of recovery following therapy.
