SASVAW 2025
Sexual Abuse and Sexual Violence Awareness Week (SASVAW) is the UK’s national week to raise awareness of sexual abuse and sexual violence.
Running from 3 – 9 February, the week is a chance to shine a light on the issue and the organisations that work in this sector. It helps to educate, inform and direct people to support and information. It is also a chance for interested organisations to find out more about what is going on around them and to share information with their members and followers.
SASVAW 2025
We have lots of exciting things lined up during SASVAW 2025. On our socials we will be sharing lots of Q&A style posts which help to explain why consent is important. Not getting consent can literally be the difference between sex and rape… and we all want to get that one right, don’t we?
But consent is not as simple as a ‘yes.’ Consent is only really given with an enthusiastic ‘yes’ and there are also some times where a person may not be able to give consent. These include:
- They have been pressured, bullied, tricked or manipulated into saying ‘yes’
- They are scared to say ‘no’
- They are too young
- If they someone is unable to an informed choice. This might happen if they are drunk, taken drugs or been spiked
- If they are asleep or unconscious
Also, there should be no expectations that because you’ve done something sexy before, that you have consent to do it again. We really like the ‘Consent is as simple as a cup of tea video.’ We have that and some other videos on our website, so why not take a look..?
Launch of the Derbyshire Your Journey Guide
On Tuesday our friends in Derbyshire will be launching the Your Journey – Derbyshire guide. Sharing the same information as our Nottinghamshire guide, but with support services updated to show what is available in Derbyshire, this one is sure to be a winner. You can download both the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire versions from our website. Why not share it with your friends and colleagues…
…and if you’re in another area and think this could be for you, why not get in touch?
Wearing purple to show support for survivors
This Friday we’re joining in with the call to wear purple to show solidarity with survivors. It’s really important to raise awareness of the need to support survivors and turning everything purple and being prepared to talk about why you have is a great way to do that. Want to go the extra mile – why not have a purple bring-and-share at work or turn your screen background purple? Even Nottingham Council House will be joining in, turning purple on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings. Don’t forget to share your photos with us on your socials #Purple4Survivors @ConsentInNotts
Get involved with SASVAW 2025
This SASVAW week we are asking everyone to get involved with taking positive actions around consent. Really simple steps we can all take include:
- Following us on your socials (@ConsentInNotts) and share our posts about consent
- Talking to your favourite bar or venue about the Safe Space Pledge
- Commit to learning more about consent through our online resources
- Share a link to our Your Journey guide with your employer, so that they know more about the support available should a colleague disclose abuse
Whatever you do this SASVAW week, keep consent at the heart of it, and you can’t go far wrong!
