Nottingham Gets Purple Flag Again!
We are proud to announce that Nottingham has been awarded the Purple Flag for the sixteenth consecutive year.
Just as the Green Flag might be awarded to parks, or the Blue Flag for beaches, the purple flag is a mark of quality assurance given to towns and cities which demonstrate a clear commitment to creating, vibrant, safe and well-managed visitor destinations. The flag assesses the city across core criteria, covering after hours policies and partnership working, safety and wellbeing, movement into, across and away from the city, diversity of choice, and areas that are alive during the day and the night.
Nottingham’s Purple Flag recognises our home as a big city with a small-city vibe, offering a friendly welcome for all. We are delighted that the Safe Space Notts Scheme, created by the Consent Coalition and It’s In Nottingham, has again been recognised. The scheme which offers training, resources and access to over 80 safe spaces, launched its own website in December. Here you can find out more about the scheme and get details of accredited venues – just in case.
Crucially, the website which can saved to your smartphone’s home screen, has an interactive map guiding people to their nearest safe space. It is not surprising that the scheme has been shortlisted for the Outstanding Community Safety and Nighttime Economy Initiative award at the NABCP Awards.
We are proud that other Consent Coalition supporters, such as Nottingham City Council, Nottinghamshire Police, Nottinghamshire Violence Reduction Partnership and the Nottinghamshire Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner, the University of Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University, were also credited by the Purple Flag awarding body as creating and maintaining strong effective, strategic partnerships to ensure safety in the city centre is a priority focus for all.
Louise Graham, Consent Coalition Manager said:
“Safe Space Notts is built on the belief that everyone in our city deserves to feel safe, supported and seen. To have our work recognised as ‘excellent and especially worthy of note’ by the Purple Flag assessor is deeply meaningful. A huge well done and thank you to all our partners, supporters and volunteers who contribute every day to making Nottingham a safe and inclusive City”.
Alex Flint, CEO It’s in Nottingham said:
“This award recognises the hard work of the It’s in Nottingham team and of our valued and important partners across the city – without whom we couldn’t deliver this outcome for Nottingham.
“We’re very keen to share the news that the Purple Flag award not only shows that we are working together for our city, but also the wide range of safety initiatives, exciting events and activities which have been highlighted by assessors, and which make Nottingham a place people enjoy visiting and spending time in.”
