We’re on the Move!

For those of you who have been to our main offices at 30 Chaucer Street, you will know it to be a beautiful building.  Built in 1897, for the The Royal Midland Institution (now known as My Sight Notts) the building was originally a School for the Blind.  Mary Chambers, who founded the RMI despite her gender and disability, was one of the first of many remarkable and determined women to walk through the doors of our building.

For the last 30 years, the building has been known as Nottingham Women’s Centre, also housing us (formerly known as Nottinghamshire Rape Crisis Centre) and Women’s Aid Integrated Services (WAIS) as well as providing training and holistic therapies.  Over recent years, we have started to outgrow the building and so we have decided that, along with our sister organisations, it is time to look for new premises that will see us through the next 30 years.

We are starting to look at what is available and would like to hear your views on what would be the most important aspects to you in our new premises.  Certain things are a given: it will be a women-only space; in the city centre; and it will be accessible for women with disabilities.  Nottingham Women’s Centre have set up a short online survey so that you can let us know any ideas or suggestions for what our future building should look like.  Paper copies of this survey are available in the centre.  We would very much like to hear from you, and hope you are able to get involved with our future plans, over the coming months.
